BPBS Arts & Media in Senegal!

www.gofundme.com/music-of-senegal

In January 2018, Nick Jennings (long-time Datura Blues satellite,) traveled to Senegal... Everywhere he went, local musicians welcomed him into their world with overwhelming hospitality. Unfortunately, having only a mobile phone with a bad microphone meant a lot of missed opportunities to document his experiences. What little footage he was able to collect received positive feedback, including a video of his new friend Salliou playing the Cas Cas that soon went viral.

Nick was inspired to return with better cameras, audio recording and video equipment, and his enthusiasm did not fall upon deaf ears. Upon hearing about the project, Oryan Peterson-Jones of BPBS Arts & Media, Datura Blues and Die Geister Beschwören (who had just completed the first of two documentaries filmed in Cuba,) also signed on.

The goal is to document the many amazing musicians that Nick met during his first trip to Senegal, pay them for their performances and put together a high quality musical documentary. In the long run, we hope to establish a platform to not only introduce the music of Senegal to the world but also send funds back to the musicians.

Brothers and Sisters!!!
Datura Blues' 20-year anniversary is quickly approaching and to celebrate we're embarking upon our very first tour of Japan! The two-week journey will take place sometime in 2020. We will begin in Tokyo and extend further towards the southwest regions, playing at least a week of shows. The rest of the time will be reserved for sight-seeing and exploring. Families are also welcome. We hope this will be be fairly large group, made up of original and current members. Those who have spent any amount of time writing, recording, practicing or performing with Datura Blues over the past two decades are strongly encouraged to get in touch. If you are interested in more hearing more details, and potentially joining the tour, please write to us at the addresses below. Thank you and Shine Bright!
